The Call to Be Ready—Faith and Preparedness in Uncertain Times Part (1 of 3)

National Preparedness Month

September marks National Preparedness Month in the United States—a time dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. With everything going on in the world, preparedness is a concept that resonates with many of us. The U.S. government, through Ready.gov, encourages individuals and families to take steps toward creating a safer and more resilient society. But as Christians, we know that our preparedness goes beyond just stockpiling supplies; it involves taking a holistic approach that aligns with our faith in God’s provision and guidance.

Faith-Based Preparedness: Why It Matters

Preparedness isn’t just a practical necessity—it’s a biblical principle. In Proverbs 22:3, we read, “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.” God has always called His people to be vigilant, to anticipate difficult times, and to be stewards of what He has given us. From Noah’s preparation for the flood to Joseph’s foresight during the famine in Egypt, the Bible is full of examples of God’s people who planned and prepared for the future.

In our chaotic and unpredictable world, preparing both physically and spiritually is an act of faith and obedience. God calls us to trust Him in all circumstances, and part of that trust involves using the wisdom He’s given us to care for our families and communities in times of crisis. Being prepared allows us to not only survive but to serve those around us in times of need.
